BORDER PATROL - By Craig Revelle (July 22)
This week at the Brockville Ontario Speedway, the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints were the main attraction. The Sprint cars always draw a huge crowd, and Saturday night was no exception. Rick Wilson and his daughter April, from Joyceville, Ontario are the fan favorites. Rick raced in the DIRT modified division weekly at Brockville for many seasons, before making the jump to the sprint cars a few years back. Read More

THE HIGH LINE - By Jay Fish (July 10)
Racing usually doesn’t take a back seat in my life to much of anything other than my bride, and my family, on any given day. Monday, June 16th was not any given day. With the passing of my father last month, my brain took a few caution laps to work things through. Read More

JIM'S JOURNEYS - By Jim Clarke (July 10)
Much of what I do on a weekly basis involves talking to the drivers about their sponsors, special guests they might have at the track or a crew member that is celebrating a birthday. In some cases, you form a friendship with the driver or some of the team members. From an announcing stand-point, that can be difficult because you can’t appear to play favourites when it comes to what happens on the racetrack. Read More

BORDER PATROL - By Craig Revelle (June 28)
Mother Nature has tried to rain on the parade of participants and fans of the Brockville Speedway most of the season so far. Tonight, she succeeded. With persistent rain most of the day on Saturday, track officials were forced to cancel the evenings program. Read More

RICK @ THE RACES - By Rick Young (June 22)
Last Tuesday (24 June) it was the Jean Baptiste public holiday in Quebec, and because my 'day job' involves working in 'Le Belle Province' I get an unpaid vacation day whether I like it or not. My original plans were to drive down to the Bridgeport Speedway in New Jersey for a 'special race ' they had scheduled, but the sky rocketing gas prices changed my mind (It's about a 9 hour drive from my place).

I know it was an ambitious plan – especially with an ‘iffy’ weather forecast – but I set-out around 11:30, looking to start my weekend quest for 4 shows in as many days. There was a little bit of drizzle just outside Toronto, but for the most part my drive to the speedway was clean and green. Read More

JIM'S JOURNEYS - By Jim Clarke (June 19)
I decided to mix a little past with the present for my racing travels. My first exposure to stock car racing was when my father took my brother and me to Kingston Speedway, a quarter-mile oval about a 15 minute drive from where I grew-up. The track has been closed since 1976, but this past weekend staged the second edition of its reunion. Read More

Kingston’s Bobby Herrington was second, and Laurent Ladouceur was third. Read More

FRESH NOTES - By Bobby Chalmers (June 13)
The Albany-Saratoga Speedway played host to an event four years in the making...a Mike Perrotte win at the "Great Race Place." The popular pilot from Elizabethtown, NY was able to work his way around the top side of the tacky half-mile oval, passing last week's winner Brett Hearn and then disposing of early leader Dave Camara just shy of ten laps to go.   Kawartha Speedway has been my regular Friday night stop for the past couple of seasons. This is my second year working at the popular 3/8ths mile oval at Fraserville, Ontario (near Peterborough). I’m one of the track’s weekly announcers and do writing for the web-site and special event programs. Kawartha’s season opener had been delayed for a week by weather and when the green flag finally flew, fans and drivers alike were chomping at the bit. Read More

L.V. win puts Larkin Motorsports back on track after rough 2008 start
Ryan Larkin’s impressive victory Saturday night (May 24) at Lebanon Valley may just have been the shot in the arm that the Larkin Motorsports team needed. To say the least, the win has become the highlight of the team’s roller coaster year at the high banks.

Bobby Herrington: A Passion for Power - By Jim Clarke (June 5)
Some sons and fathers share an interest in – and a passion for hockey or baseball. For Bobby Herrington and his father Randy, their love is motorsports. The 17 year-old from Elginburg, Ontario (just north of Kingston) began racing go-karts in 1999 and earned a number of track championships – including the fall series title at Can Am Speedway and a win at the United States Indoor Go-Kart Nationals in 2003.   Friday night it was off to the famed Williams Grove Speedway for a Sprint Car double header featuring the 410 and 358 Sprint Cars. When the checkered flag flew over the 410 Sprints, Berwick Pennsylvania native Alan Cole piloted the Charlie Sorokach owned No. 35 to his second career victory at the legendary 1/2 mile Read More

JIM'S JOURNEYS - By Jim Clarke (June 3)
What I had hoped would be my second night of racing on the weekend turned-out to be my only night of racing on the weekend. For the 3rd time in 2008, I headed for ‘The BOS’. With a number tracks cancelling their shows earlier in the day, it looked like the car count at Brockville would be spectacular. I set out from Kingston a little after 3:00 and my trip was sunny and warm all the way. After a quick pit stop at Tim Horton’s in Gananoque, I arrived at the track around 4:00. Read More

On Thursday night (29 May) I went along to the Cornwall Motor Speedway for the opening night of the Kids Karting Club. They normally run on Tuesday night but this weeks races had to be postponed to Thursday. The club has now been going strong for a couple of years and is a great feeding ground for up and coming talent. Already some of the youngsters have progressed to the larger oval, located next to the Kart track. Read More

JIM'S JOURNEYS - By Jim Clarke (May 24)
Every track likes to give the drivers a chance to shake-down their rides before the season opens and Friday, May 23rd Kawartha Speedway (Fraserville, Ontario) opened the gates for the 4 weekly divisions that will compete there in 2008. I’m a little biased when it comes to talking about Kawartha. I’m one of the track’s weekly announcers and write some of the material that appears on the speedway web-site and in the special event magazines. Read More

On the way to my Friday racing destination, I stopped for gas in Smiths Falls, Ontario. Once back underway, I turned the radio to a station from Ottawa – CHEZ 106 – and they were playing “Rock n’ Roll” by Led Zeppelin. The first line of the song....’Its been a long time since I rock and rolled....’ got me thinking about how long it had been since I’d visited Capital City Speedway. Read More

JIM'S JOURNEYS - By Jim Clarke (May 7)
I can’t remember the exact date, but my first exposure to stock car racing was when my Dad took my brother and me to Kingston Speedway. It was probably in the late 60’s. I wouldn’t have been quite 10 years old. One of my first stops every Friday night was at the souvenir stand, hoping they might have a few new pictures of my favourite driver – Stormin’ Norman Davey. That might go a long way to explaining why I always have a camera with me at the racetracks I visit today. Read More

JIM'S JOURNEYS - By Jim Clarke (April 30)
Like a good little race-chaser, I got started early. I was watching The Weather Network more than a week before I’d planned to hit the road for the season opening Super DIRTcar 358 Modified series event at Merrittville Speedway. If it had been possible to get a long-range forecast for a longer period, I would’ve been stressing over the weather much longer. Every forecast I saw showed cloud and showers...even thunderstorms. I was hoping to get an early season racing fix, but I wasn’t optimistic. After waking-up to sunshine, my level of excitement certainly changed. Read More

JIM'S JOURNEYS - By Jim Clarke (April 23)
After spending a long, cold winter writing about racecars, then spending 3 days in a mall around racecars and talking to people about racecars, it was finally time. Time to go to a track and watch racecars in person. The original plan was to head to Fulton Speedway for their 2008 season opener. But, when wet grounds forced that show to be postponed for another week – much like Brewerton’s opener a couple of weeks earlier – it was time for a new plan. Read More
